Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines the football scholarship of his family and service to the community. One of the first things he did is to help the Selmon relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children on a Eufala farm. He played second in football and was the third brother who were players for Oklahoma. The three brothers all made All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's most effective lineman. For three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy serving as their starting line-up. They also won the national title twice. In 1975, Selmon was awarded his third scholarship, and was recognized as a National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned his degree in education. Fourth year of college Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week to volunteer projects. He settled down in Tampa following college. He played with the Buccaneers for a period of nine years, and played three times in the all-pro league. His business career began. In 1988, he worked as an Account Relation Officer for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. This is why Lee Roy was honored when the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated him as one of the top 10 young men across the nation. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and was a tall of 7-foot-2. When he was playing for college, he was the head coach of the team of 1975. In 1993, he was appointed the associate director of Athletics at University of South Florida. The College Football Hall of Fame was named for him as a member in the year 1998. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame, in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Selmons' parents Lucious and Mary Selmon Jr. have been awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor that presented the award.
